WINDSOR, N.S. – The Northumberland Nighthawks varsity boys’ basketball team has captured its second tournament gold in as many weekends.
The Nighthawks participated in the Avon View Avalanche tournament in Windsor last weekend.
Northumberland defeated host Avon View’s varsity team 76-56 in its opening game Friday. The Nighthawks followed that with an 88-51 victory over the C.P. Allen Junior Varsity Cheetahs Saturday morning to finish first in their pool, securing a spot in the championship game.
They scored a decisive 113-57 win in the final against Dartmouth High School Junior Varsity Spartans.
Lexter Rico, Brayden MacDonald, and Derrick Cho received player of the game awards. Cho, Álvaro Ortega, and Raine DeCoste received hustle awards. The tournament MVP was Glen Cox.
The Nighthawks have been invited to participate in the 2019 Coal Bowl national basketball tournament in New Waterford next month.
