The $11-million facility, which along with an artificial turf soccer field contains a track, gym/multi-purpose room, fitness centre, shinny rink and skating loop, opened at the end of June. However, the community doesn’t have any competitive soccer teams, which is why last Tuesday the Pictou County and Strait squads became the first two teams to play on the field. NNU won the game 2-0, with Megan MacKenzie scoring both goals and KJ Emery earning the shut-out in nets.
