Currently the team's record is 12-1-1 with 45 goals for and six against – dominant might be the best word to describe them.
Recently the team attended the 26th Annual Gunn Baldursson Soccer Tournament and finished third out of 16 teams, winning a bronze medal. The team suffered their first lost of the season in the semifinals in a shootout to the Bedford Titans. During the tournament NNU defeated Dartmouth United 1-0, West Nova Fuels (Lunenburg) 1-0, Dunbrack United 1-0 and Halifax County 3-1.
This year’s team is made up of a combination of experience and youth. There are numerous former university players and current high school players rounding out the roster.
The most recent blow to the team was loss of standout striker Melanie Hill, who is out the remainder of the season with an ACL tear. The team defiantly misses the scoring touch of the former AUS all-star, but is confident in the depth of their team.
"Melanie is irreplaceable, but our team has really pulled together to continue to be successful," said player-coach Jackie Ryan. "A situation like this requires other players to step up their game and so far that has been happening".
From Aug. 23-24 the senior women’s squad will also play host to provincials at the Sobeys Soccer Complex in Stellarton. The two-day tournament will bring in the top eight teams from across the province.
