“We’re hoping people will come out to give curling a try,” said new president Barb Leck.

“It’s a very social sport; it makes the winters go fast and you get some physical activity into your life.”

On-ice instruction will be available for anyone looking to try the sport and the club’s registration desk will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. as well as Thursday afternoon from 2-4 p.m.

There is a novice league set up for new curlers, who can learn the nuances of the sport while playing with and against others who are close to their skill level.

Leck said anyone can curl, regardless of age; they have members ranging in age from five up to 90, proving it’s never too late to take up curling.

There were 200 members last season, 50 of them junior players.

The club has invested approximately $30,000 in a new chiller; the old one had been in use for 21 years, roughly its anticipated lifespan.

Schedule of events for the open house at Bluenose Curling Club:

• Oct. 11 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) – Bluenose CC and Pulse Pictou County present Pulse Learn To Curl Night & Novice League sign-up.

• Oct. 12 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) – Youth Night: Stop by for information about the club’s Little Rocks and Junior Curling programs.

Oct. 13 (2-4 p.m.) – Afternoon curling sign up

Oct. 13 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) – Bring A Friend And Play An End! Members are encouraged to bring a friend who is not a member of the club and introduce them to the sport of curling.
