NEW GLASGOW - The CBC has opened a bureau in New Glasgow.
Kevin Harvey will be the corporation's man behind the camera in Pictou County. Harvey has 30 years' experience in news (29 with CBC) and 10 years' experience as a videographer.
His last placement with CBC was in Gander, NL.
"For me it's an opportunity for a challenge and a change - I like working in small rural areas with rural people," Harvey said, from an assignment in Tatamagouche yesterday.
His coverage area hasn't been firmly established, but so far Harvey has been covering events in Pictou County and the surrounding region.
Eventually, CBC intends to open up a permanent office space in New Glasgow and it could happen sooner than later, said Dennis Pate, senior producer at CBC Halifax.
Traditionally, if a story breaks in Pictou County, a reporter would be dispatched from Halifax.
Having a person on the ground in this area gives the news service the ability to provide better coverage of local events, which CBC has given increased emphasis, he said.
