Gold was the medal of choice for the Northern Nova U-18 boys soccer team at the P.E.I. Police Association Soccer Tournament over the weekend.

The small squad played five games in less than two days in 30-degree temperatures.

Players of the game were awarded to: Liam Taylor (team captain), Gillis Cox, James Mackenzie and Jordan Wheeler.

The boys had a poor start on Friday against Dartmouth United, but seemed to improve with every game.

Saturday’s games against Fundy (Amherst) and Riverview resulted in NNU scoring 11 goals in two games.

An early Sunday semifinal against Western Valley DQ Selects showed exceptional skill and determination from many players said coach John Fortune.

NNU went on to play Dartmouth United for a second time in the tournament final, although this time they only had 10 players.

The parental support and sheer determination of the players eventually turned into success with the winning goal being scored by Jack Casey in the last five minutes of the game.
