Her Nova Scotia rink that is skipped by Mary-Anne Arsenault knocked off Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones and Team Canada’s Rachel Homan in back-to-back draws at Mosaic Place.
“It’s unreal as I’ve watched these girls play for the last few years,” Black said. “Jennifer’s spent over a decade at the top and Rachel’s been up there for the last five years.
“To be able to not only play them but to beat them is really unbelievable. It shows that we belong here.”
With the two wins on Wednesday, the Halifax based squad enters Thursday in eighth place in the standings at 4-5.
“Making the playoffs is not out of the question right now,” Black said. “If we can win our last two games (over Quebec’s Lauren Mann and British Columbia’s Patti Knezevic on Thursday) we would be at 6-5 and that might be enough to get us in.
“Even if we don’t make it to the playoffs it’s been an amazing week and today was an awesome day.”
Arsenault, who won five Scotties titles as the second for Coleen Jones' rink, opened up Wednesday's schedule with a 9-6 victory over Jones which was decided by a three-ender in the eighth end.
In the afternoon game, Arsenault score a four-ender in the sixth end to help set up a 7-6 win over Homan.
“I knew that we could beat them but I certainly didn’t expect us to win both of those games,” Arsenault said. “We’ve been playing well and those hits or draws that went against us earlier this week we’re in our favour today.
“All of our games have been coming to the wire this week and we were finally on the right side of the inch.”
Arsenault’s opponents were also quick to point out how well the Bluenosers were performing on Wednesday.
“They were playing really well,” Team Canada third Emma Miskew said. “They were able to make some great shots to set-up the four ender in the sixth end and we were playing catch-up from that point on.”
“They were excellent today and when we had our chances to try and capitalize on their mistakes, we weren’t able to do anything,” Jones added.
