WOLFVILLE, N.S.

Soemtimes, even one out of three ain’t bad.

Cara MacDonald, the dominant sprinter in her age category from New Glasgow Academy, wanted to break the provincial Intermediate record in all three events she entered at the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation provincial championships this past weekend.

She did smash the 400-meter record with a time of 58.99 (shew owned the old record, too), and was less than a half-second second short of breaking the Intermediate record in both the 200 and the 800-metre events.

“I wanted to break all three of the records,” said MacDonald. “I just got the 400, but I was still happy with that.”

She said the NSSAF competition is her favourite track and field meet of the year.

“I look forward to it that most, it’s with all my friends from school and the other schools.”

Jenna Reid of Pictou Academy was also a triple medalist; she won a bronze in the discus, a silver in the shot put, and capped it with a gold medal performance in the javelin.

“I had three personal bests in all my events, so it was a really good weekend,” said Reid, who this fall will attend Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., where she’ll compete with the school’s track and field team.

“I wanted to throw my personal bests and that’s what happened, so I couldn’t ask for much more.”

Reid threw for 40.01 metres in the javelin, getting over the 40-meter mark for the first time.

“It was a high accomplishment. I’ve been trying to hit the 40 now for quite a while, so it was a success overall.”

Thrower Keighan DeCoff, of NNEC, won gold medals in the Intermediate shot put as well as the discus.
