TRENTON
The fists will be flying, the crowd will be roaring.
It will be the usual Pictou County boxing night when the Albion Boxing Club holds a card Nov. 16 at the NSCC in Stellarton.
The Albion club will have nine boxers on the card, along with one from the Westville Boxing Club.
“We have the smaller boxers, right up to super heavyweight,” said club president Jim Worthen.
“It’s a new venue for us, all the usual stuff will be there: the DJ, the bar, the food and the exciting fights.”
In recent years, the Albion club has held cards at Summer Street Industries, but feel they’ve grown into the larger venue at the NSCC gym.
The doors open at 6 p.m., with the matches to follow one hour later. There will be approximately 12 bouts on the card, depending on any last-minute withdrawals or additions.
Ticket prices are $18 advance and can be purchased at Big Al’s Convenience store in New Glasgow, or from any club member, and $20 at the door.
This will be Walter Linthorne’s first card in the position of Albion head coach, but he has plenty of experience as an assistant coach, so he’s not concerned about being being nervous.
He said his boxers are eager to perform in front of the hometown crowd.
“They’re excited, nervous. But they’re all ready to put on a good show.”
