Pictou County is receiving a $20,000 bonus for their contributions to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program.

Chris Kondracki, who owns New Glasgow Canadian Tire at Highland Square Mall said they were successful in their campaign this year raising funds to help cover cost of sports for youth and finished at the top of 120 stores in the region.

“In fact, we raised more than four times the amount that the store raised last year, and since 100 per cent of the money raised stays right here in our Pictou County we will be able to help more than four times the amount of local kids this year,” he said.

This is the first time the New Glasgow store has won the community bonus.

While money donated to Jumpstart is used exclusively to help youth involved in sports, this $20,000 bonus can be used for any cause in the community that the store deems appropriate.

Kondracki said they’ve decided to split the money between two nonprofits.

The first is Stellarton Lion’s Club which helped organize barbecues in support of the Jumpstart program. The other is New Glasgow Rotary Club to use toward an accessible playground they are planning for the Rotary Park.

Kondracki said he is thankful for the community stepping up and making this a success.
