TRENTON
An estimated 300 boxing fans turned up at the NSCC in Stellarton on Nov. 16 for an entertaining boxing card.
“It was full, and it seemed like everyone had a good time,” said Walter Linthorne, head coach with the Albion Boxing Club, which hosted a card for the first time at the NSCC campus, after hosting such events at Summer Street Industries for a number of years.
A total of nine local boxers took part, including one from the Westville Boxing Club. There was an exhibition bout between Matt Fraser and Tyver Stewart, a girls fight featuring Albion boxer Sadie LeBlanc, who bludgeoned her way to another win, and a main event that was a superheavyweight bout between local fighter Rob MacLeod and Cumberland County’s Aiden Turner.
“It started out slow,” Linthorne said of the main event.
“But after the first round and into the second, Rob started connecting with more shots. In the third round, he took over the fight. He was using a lot more right hands, and fewer left jabs.”
