TRENTON – Three goals from Jeremy McFarlane led the Pictou County Scotians to a 5-2 win over the Brookfield Elks on Sunday.

In a Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League game played at Trenton rink, McFarlane had an even-strength goal, a power play marker and also scored shorthanded as the Scotians broke open a 2-2 tie in the third period, denying the Elks what would have been their first victory of the season.

Lucas Ruston and Will Kelly also scored for Pictou County (4-2 on the season) and Ian Keating picked up two assists.

Darius Saberi and Luke Fielding did the scoring for the Elks (0-7-1). Matt Murray got the win in goal.

McFarlane now has nine goals on the season, tied with Ethan Randell-Watson of the Valley Maple Leafs for second spot in the NSJHL. Logan MacLellan of the Liverpool Privateers has 12.

Pictou County defenceman Logan Vandemeeraker has 18 points (3G, 15A) to lead the Scotians in scoring and is third overall in the league.

The Scotians will travel to Glace Bay on Saturday to play the Miners and are home to the Strait Pirates on Sunday, a 6 p.m. game at Trenton rink.
