Pictou County Athletics to hold early registration

STELLARTON – Pictou County Athletics (PCA) will hold early registration for its 2019 membership Nov. 28 at the Pictou County Wellness Center.

It will be from 7-9 p.m.

PCA’s 13+ program begins on Jan. 2 at the YMCA, the other practice days are Fridays at the indoor soccer facility and Sundays afternoons at NNEC.

Those who register for PCA on Nov. 28 will have their name put in for a draw on a PCA team jacket.

Team fees are $335 for a full year (January to mid- August) and $195 for winter (January to April 1). Both fees include Athletics NS fee of $75 which is necessary for insurance coverage. Also, a one month trial membership will be offered for anyone and the fees are $115 which includes the ANS fee of $75. If the athlete wishes to continue the amount will go towards full or winter membership fees. For the early registration, a 50 per cent deposit will be accepted with the remaining fees due on Jan. 2.

PCA has been in operation for the past 7 years and has made great strides in club development and individual successes. Athletics (or track and field) is also well known for being an excellent cross training sport.

Other programs offered by PCA are the Trailblazers (ages 9 to 12), Masters ages (35+). Both of these programs start Jan. 4 and early registration will happen at the same time as the 13+ program. For more details on these two programs, visit the PCA website: Pictoucountyathletics.com.

Albion boxer wins fight in Glace Bay

TRENTON – Albion Boxing Club fighter Carson Scholes won a tough unanimous decision over Kelsey Trenholme from Truro in a 48kg bout Saturday in Glace Bay.

The 14-year-old Little Harbour resident saw his amateur boxing record improve to 3-1.

Major Midgets lose two against Mustangs

WESTVILLE ROAD – The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets dropped as pair of games to the South Shore Mustangs on the weekend.

Pictou County lost 4-0 Sunday against the South Shore Mustangs, a day after the Mustangs edge Weeks in a 5-4 final at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. Jacob Melanson had a goal and two assists for Pictou County, Blake Kontuk, Matthew Carson and Ryan Green also chipped in with goals.

Pictou County (4-11) has dropped three consecutive games, after winning three in a row in mid-October. Their next home game is Sunday at noon, against the Steele Subaru Major Midgets.
