Peewee AAA Crushers take two from Mariners

WESTVILLE ROAD, N.S. – The Pictou County Peewee AAA Crushers took two games from the Yarmouth Mariners last weekend in Mainland league hockey action.

On Nov. 24 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, the Crushers post a 3-1 victory.

Scoring for the Crushers were Keegan Dalton, Amias Crossman and Kaden Smith, with assists coming off the sticks of Dalton, Levon Walst, Clint MacLaughlin and Cade Moser. Jorja Burrows had a strong game between the pipes in the victory.

In the second contest, the Crushers came to play and skated to a 4-1 win. Scoring for the Crushers were Wyatt Spence, Landon Steele, Ben Marchand and Lane Sim, with assists coming from Sim (2), Steele, MacLaughlin, Moser, Spence and Smith. Alex Palmer had a great game in the Crushers net to help seal the victory.

The Crushers next see action when they travel to Acadia Dec. 1 to play the Axemen at 3 p.m. They are back at the PCWC the next day at 2:15 p.m. to play the Axemen again. The Crushers currently sit in second place in the league standings.

Steelers remain unbeaten at 13-0

TRENTON, N.S. – The Trenton Peewee C Steelers improve their record to 13-0 on Nov. 26 when they took on the Westville Miners, defeating them 6-1.

Leading the way for the Steelers was Ross Swinamer, with two goals. Ethan MacKay, Caden MacDonald, Landon Martin and Seth Francis added singles. Assists came from MacKay with a pair, Martin, Cole MacGregor and Tyson Barteaux.

The Steelers’ next game is Friday in Thorburn at 7:10 p.m.

Weeks Major Midgets lose 5-3 to Wildcats

WESTVILLE ROAD, N.S. – The Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets dropped a 5-3 decision to the Valley Wildcats on Nov. 24.

Jacob Melanson had two goals and an assist for Weeks, and Ben Fraser also scored.

The Major Midgets will play at Cape Breton West on Nov. 29. and have a home game Dec. 1 against Cole Harbour at 6:30 p.m. at Pictou County Wellness Centre.

Peewee A Crushers win back-to-back games

WESTVILLE ROAD, N.S. – The Pictou County Peewee A Crushers defeated the Antigonish Bulldogs in two weekend games.

In Antigonish, the Crushers won 7-1.

Cole Bryden led the Crushers with a hat trick with Cameron Pitts adding two and Griffin Horton notching a single. Assists went to Ryan Galway (2), Leland Tobin and Cole Miller.

At the Pictou County Wellness Center on Nov. 25, the Crushers skated away with a 6-1 win. Once again, Bryden led the way with another hat trick, with single tallies going to Chris Jorden, Cameron Pitts and Horton.

Setting up the goals were Kaleb MacEachern (2), Jack MacNeil (2), Miller and Ethan Barker. Noah Larade-MacDonald was stellar in nets both games.

The Crushers play the Colchester Peewee A team Saturday in Thorburn.

Bantam AA Crushers win, tie in weekend action

WESTVILLE ROAD, N.G. – The Bantam AA Crushers had a win and a tie this past weekend in Nova Scotia Mainland hockey action.

On Saturday in Acadia, Pictou County fell behind 3-0 in the first and had to battle back for a 3-3 tie. With the goalie pulled, the Crushers tied the game with 18 seconds to play on a goal by Lane Lochead set up by Cory MacGillivray. The other two goals were scored by Lochead and Logan Crosby.

Collecting assists were MacGillivray (2), Resse Smith, Lochead, and Brent Chapman.

On Sunday at the Pictou County Wellness Centre, the Crushers defeated Antigonish 7-3. Goal scorers for the Crushers were Jayden Duplessis and Lochead, with two each, and single goals going to Scott Mosher, Crosby, and Reese Smith. Assists went to Smith (4), Lochead (3), Duplessis (2), MacGillivray (2), and Crosby.

The Crushers now have a league record of 9-0-1. This weekend, Pictou County will play a home-and-home versus the Bulldogs – Dec. 1 in Pictou at noon and the next day in Antigonish.

Peewee AA team earns silver at SEDMHA

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – The Peewee AA Subway Selects female hockey team won silver last weekend at the SEDMHA tournament in Dartmouth.

The first game Thursday against Metro East Inferno was won 3-2 in a shootout. Selects goals were scored by Chloe Garcia, Chloe Reeves, from Karlee Rose, and Mya MacDonald scoring in the shootout.

Friday's game against the Mid Isle Wildcats was 3-0 shutout for goalie Caitlin Cleary, with Selects goals by Lily Leblanc, and two, and Garcia, with Reese Murray assisting.

Saturday's first game against Metro West Red was won 2-1 in overtime. The Selects goal was scored by Garcia, from Murray, with Leblanc scoring in overtime.

Saturday's second game was a 3-0 loss to Metro West Blue.

Sunday's first game was a 2-0 shutout for Cleary. Murray scored both goals and Garcia had two assists.

Sunday's second game was a 3-0 loss for the selects against Metro West Blue.

Bantam AA Selects go 3-2 at SEDMHA tournament

DARTMOUTH, N.S. – The Fundy Highland bantam AA Selects girls hockey team posted a 3-2 record and brought home the bronze medal from the SEDMHA Tournament on the weekend.

Game 1 saw the Selects best Metro East Inferno 3-0. Maddie Beson led the way with a goal and an assist and Willa Evans and Ava Genoe added singles. Gabby Arsenault recorded the shutout.

The second game saw the Selects defeat the Western Phantoms (New Brunswick) 2-1. Kenzie Greencorn scored the winning goal with 47 seconds left in the game. Beson scored the other goal. Olivia Fitt had two assists with singles going to Evans and Julia MacDonald.

In Game 3, the Selects were defeated by the Moncton Rockets 3-2. Erin MacNeil and Beson were the Select scorers, with Fitt chipping in an assist.

Game 4 saw Beson score the winning goal in the shootout as the Selects beat the Western Phantoms N.B.1-0. Arsenault once again provided shutout goaltending.

With a berth in the final on the line, the Selects were defeated and eliminated by Metro East Inferno 1-0.
