Pictou Mariners do well at swim meet

ANTOGONISH – The small but mighty Pictou County Mariners were a strong force at the AA Spring Championships this weekend at StFX.

Eight of the 11 athlete secured Top 6 placings and the entire team represented as either a finalist or an alternate. All swimmers contributed to maintaining an 80per cent Personal Best (PB) rate over the course of the three-day meet.

Owen Chabassol and Mael Gonclaves achieved AAA qualifying times and are eligible to compete in the Ken Dunn Championships next month. Amelia Boudreau qualified in her 400 Freestroke.

Local Results:

• Amelia Boudreau: Alternate 50 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 1 AAA Qualifying time 400 Freestroke, 6 Personal Bests (PBs).

• Autumn Burke: 2nd 1500 Free, 3rd 800 Freestroke, 6th 50 Freestroke, 6th 400 Freestroke, 4 PBs.

• Hannah Christmas: 6th 100 Flystroke and 4 PBs.

• Ellie Clarke: Alternate 200 Breast, 4PBs; Mya Currie 6th 1500 Freestroke, 6 PBs.

• Nora LeBlanc: Alternate 200 Breaststroke and 100 Breaststroke, 1 PB; Cailyn Sheehan 6th 100 Breaststroke.

• Owen Chabassol: 1st 100 Flystroke, 3rd 100 Breaststroke, 4th 200 Breaststroke, 4th 200 Individual Medley, 5th 200 Freestroke, 3rd 50 Flystroke, 9PBs, and now a AAA Qualifier.

• Mael Gonclaves: 1st 50 Backstroke, 1st 50 Fly, 2nd 200 Freestroke, 3rd 50 Freestroke, 4th 100 Flystroke, 2nd 100 Freestroke, 7 PBs, AAA Qualifier.

• Luke MacLean: 3rd 50 Backstroke, 6th 100 Free, 6th 100 Back 6PBs.

•; Jacob Whitehead: 2nd 400 Individual Medley, 4th 50 Fly, 5 PBs.
