The Pictou County Scotians went into Sunday night with a chance to win their fourth straight game.
The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League club had an opportunity to sweep a weekend home-and-home with Glace Bay, after edging the Miners 3-2 in Membertou on Friday. The win pulled the Scotians closer to the Miners, who occupy first place in the Sid Rowe Division and are four points ahead of Pictou County (8-2-3).
Friday’s game in Cape Breton saw Jeremy McFarlane’s score a goal and set up Jacob Pentz’s power play marker in the second period, with those two goals snapping a 1-1 tie.
Colin Holmes had a short-handed goal for Pictou County in the first period.
Kelly Yates and Jacob Keagan scored for Glace Bay (11-2-1).
Bombers win one of two on weekend
WESTVILLE ROAD - The Pictou County Wear Well Major Bantam Bombers picked up a win in one of two games on the weekend.
On Saturday in Antigonish, the Bombers spotted The Novas a 1-0 lead before scoring three unanswered goals in a 3-1 victory.
Landon Sim, Matt Carson and Cale MacLaughlin scored for Pictou County, David Matthews had two assists and Thomas Gariepy made 19 saves to get the win in goal.
Against the Joneljim Cougars on Sunday in Cape Breton, the Bombers lost 6-4, bringing a four-game winning streak to an end.
Landon Sim had two goals for Pictou County, Kiefer Avery and Landon MacDonald had singles.
"We played a lot of the game in their end," coach Jon Sim said.
"But we have to play well in our end, too. We have to play defence."

Tommies edge Rams in battle for seventh place
HALIFAX - The St. Thomas Tommies defeated the Dalhousie-AC Rams 1-0 Saturday to win the seventh-place game at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s national women’s soccer championships.
Amy Whytewood, formerly of Stellarton, is an assistant coach with the Tommies.
Stellarton native Katie Walsh, who plays with the Jackie-Fitt Ryan-coached Rams, was named her team’s player of the game.
Elans de Garneau, of Quebec, won their fourth straight women’s soccer national title on the weekend.
