TRENTON – 

The Pictou County Scotians have relieved coach Mike Stewart of his duties.

Stewart was fired by the organization after a Jan. 23 home game, a 5-1 loss to the Glace Bay Miners at Trenton rink.

Assistant coach Cole Baker will take over begind the bench for the rest of the Nova Scotia Junior Jockey League season.

Stewart was in his first full season as head coach with Pictou County, which has a won-loss record of 6-15-3. Pictou County is currently in fourth place in the Sid Rowe Division and occupy the final playoff spot, but are only two points ahead of the Eskasoni Junior Eagles. Pictou County only has seven games left in the regular season, while Eskasoni has 12 games remaining.

The Scotians will be home to the Strait Pirates this coming Sunday at 6 p.m.
