TRENTON – The Pictou County Scotians beat up on the Cumberland County Blues this past weekend, winning twice against the Blues by decisive margins.
Friday night in Springhill, Will Kelly and Jeremy McFarlane each had two goals to pace Pictou County to a 7-2 win. The Scotians also received goals from Jacob Pentz, Cory McCrudden and Callum Bouma. Kelly and Ian Keating both helped set up two goals and Logan Vande Meerakker had three assists.
Ian Connors got the win in goal.
On Sunday night at Trenton rink, McFarlane and Pentz both collected hat tricks, Keating, Campbell Burrows and Ryan MacDonald also had goals in a 9-3 victory for Pictou County. Will Kelly had four helpers, while Vande Meerakker and McFarlane both had two assists and Matt Murray made 22 saves in the Pictou County net. The Scotians had 69 shots on goal in the game, and 112 total in the two wins over the Blues (2-22.
The Scotians (13-8) are at the Strait Pirates on Friday, and return home Sunday to play the Eskasoni Junior Eagles (6 p.m. start time at Trenton rink).
• Vande Meerakker, a defenceman, has 30 assists on the season, good enough for sixth spot across the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
• McFarlane and Pentz each has a team-best 23 goals, tied for fifth in the NSJHL.
