NORTH RIVER, P.E.I. – Olivia Fitt potted the winning goal in a shootout as the Fundy Highland Subway Selects edged the Moncton Rockets 2-1 to win the bantam AAA division at 13th annual Sweetheart female minor hockey tournament last weekend.
Mairead MacPherson scored the lone goal for the Selects in regulation, connecting on the power play.
The Selects swept through the round-robin with a perfect 3-0 record.
In a 3-0 win over Central Storm, P.E.I., Baillie Griffon had a goal and an assist, while Julia MacDonald and Maddie Beson added single markers.
In Game 2, Fitt scored both goals in 2-0 win over Mid Isle Wildcats (P.E.I.), with Willa Evans and Beson providing assists.
Next, the Selects got goals from Beson and Jaylen Langille in a 2-1 win over the Western Wind, also of P.E.I. Megan Smith provided an assist.
In semifinal action, Evans scored the lone goal of the game in the third period as the Selects edged the Wind 1-0 to advance to the championship game. Fitt and Langille had assists.
Goaltender Gabby Arsenault recorded all five wins and posted three shutouts and Fitt was named tournament MVP.
