NEW GLASGOW, N.S. – The Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame is looking for volunteers, including a new curator.
Long-time curator Barry Trenholm, who has overseen the Hall since the death of founder Billy Dee in April 2008, handed in his formal resignation on Oct. 31, but is willing to stay on until this replacement can be found. Dee had been at the helm since its inception in 1989.
A three-person search committee consisting of Westville rep Lenny White, New Glasgow rep Clyde Fraser and Pictou rep Eric Daley are working together to get the word out while celebrating Trenholm’s achievements.
The Hall of Fame is looking for a volunteer for general accounting duties, such as banking and preparing financial statements and making sure the bills are paid.
The time needed is an estimated two-to-three hours every two months.
Also needed are volunteers to share responsibilities when the hall of fame is open to the general public; duties such as hosting visitors and conducting tours, keeping it neat and clean, organizing displays, searching for fundraising projects such as sponsors and applicable grants, prepare meeting agendas and minutes, coordinate projects with other volunteers and assist with inductions.
Minimum time is three hours per week.
“New board members are welcome,” said Fraser.
“(And) a recording secretary would be most beneficial. Meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m.”
Interested parties may contact the Hall by phone at 902-755 1755 or by email:  [email protected].
