HALIFAX – Blayre Turnbull was named the Sports Nova Scotia’s Female Team Athlete of the Month.

The Stellarton native, who joined teammate Jill Saulnier as the first Nova Scotians to ever play on the Canadian Olympic women’s hockey team, got the nod from SNS and Cleve’s Source for Sports.

During the semifinal, against the Olympic Athletes from Russia, Turnbull tallied two assists helping the team to a 5-0 victory.

In the gold medal game against the United States, Turnbull set up a goal. Canada finished with a silver medal after a nail-biting 3-2 shootout loss.

Alpine skier Emily Todd of Halifax was named Female Individual Athlete of the Month and snowboarder Liam Moffatt of Londonderry was Male Individual Athlete of the Month.
