Nicole Walsh couldn’t be happier with the support the community showed this past weekend as the West Side Community Centre hosted the second annual Power Play Ball Hockey Tournament.

Walsh is vice president for the community centre and co-organizer for the event.

There were 21 teams with about 180 youth who took part. The players ranged in age from five to 15 years old.

In addition to being a fun time for teams to compete, the tournament also served as a fundraiser for upgrades to the playground equipment at the community centre.

Around $5,000 was raised which will go towards purchasing new accessible playground equipment.

“It was very successful and we were just really excited about how involved the community got and how supportive they were.”

She said about 500 people came out to watch the games.

“It was just nice to see that many people in one space.”

Winning teams

IP division: Street Heat

Novice division: Storms a brewin’

Atom division: Road Ragers

Peewee/Bantam division: The Kittens.
