CINDY DAY: I couldn’t have done it without you!

It felt like Christmas morning when my computers arrived! It has been a lot of work, but worth every minute of it!

Time flies when you’re having fun and it sure did. Last Tuesday marked my first anniversary with SaltWire.

To be very honest, I’m not sure who should have been more nervous one year ago: me for leaving something familiar and comfortable to step into a job so new it didn’t exist or Mark Lever and his team for challenging the status quo and hiring a newspaper meteorologist to prepare video?

You can’t imagine how excited I was to get started. I embraced the possibility of sharing a little more science with you, taking time to explain and not just “tell” you what was on the way. I truly believe that people love to learn.

I know this doesn’t happen all the time, but I felt comfortable from the very first day. After meeting a few co-workers, I could see they had incredible vision and that we were embarking on this adventure together.

I started to write almost immediately, but it took a while to set up the computers and my lovely little studio. To be honest, I felt very alone at first: one meteorologist in a large - albeit gorgeous – office, building maps, writing columns and forecasts all day. I soon realized I was not alone. I could hear your enthusiasm in every email, tweet and phone call. That’s when I knew this was going to work.

CINDY DAY: A ‘blanket statement' about the weather

The product has already undergone a few changes. For example, many of you reached out early on, expressing a desire to see tide times in the local papers. We got right on that and it’s a nice companion piece to the marine forecast.

You are more a part of this than you might think. Every day, someone asks a great question that leads to a column idea. While I feel connected to you, I don’t pretend to know everything about the communities and the people.

With one year under my belt, I’d like to reach out for your feedback. I’d like to hear your thoughts on the content in the videos, the newsletter, on the digital sites or in print. I can’t promise to make all the changes you might request, but I do promise to consider each and every one of them. I would never want things to get stale and there’s always room for improvement.

Thank you for choosing Weather By Day for your daily weather forecasts, a look at the science behind what goes on out there, Grandma’s wisdom, amazing local photos and the occasional story.

I want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for being part of this exciting journey; I hope we can continue to weather the storms together.
